NASDAQ: Wave 3 Targets 29,850–30,000 After Breakout Above 26,736
The NASDAQ has reached the exact technical level that matters for the current Elliott Wave count. The index completed Wave 1 from 24,489 to 26,736, followed by a flat Wave 2 correction from 26,736 to 26,212. With the NASDAQ now clearing 26,736 and holding above that level, the breakout condition for the next major advance has been triggered.
The Wave 3 target is 29,850–30,000.
That makes 26,736 the key confirmation level for the bullish setup.
Wave 1: 24,489 to 26,736
The first leg of the structure carried the NASDAQ from 24,489 to 26,736.
This advance established the initial Wave 1 of the larger move. The significance of 26,736 is not simply that it represents a prior high. It is the upper boundary of the Wave 1 advance and therefore the level that the NASDAQ needed to reclaim before the next wave could be considered underway.
The index subsequently pulled back rather than immediately breaking higher.
That pullback created the next important component of the structure.
Wave 2: Flat Correction to 26,212
Following the 26,736 Wave 1 high, the NASDAQ corrected to 26,212.
This is being identified as a flat Wave 2.
The relatively shallow nature of the correction is important. Wave 2 did not completely retrace Wave 1. Instead, the index held well above the 24,489 starting point and established a higher low at 26,212.
That created the structural foundation for the next advance.
The count therefore becomes:
Wave 1: 24,489 → 26,736
Wave 2: 26,736 → 26,212
Wave 3: 29,850–30,000
The critical transition between Wave 2 and Wave 3 is the recovery above 26,736.
The Breakout Above 26,736
The NASDAQ has now cleared 26,736, which is the breakout that this structure was waiting for.
Recent market data confirms that the index has been trading near these levels, with the Nasdaq Composite closing at 26,588.49 on August 12, after gaining 0.5% that day. (AP News)
That means the move above 26,736 represents a relatively important technical development rather than simply another move within the prior trading range.
The key phrase here is “on a close above 26,736.”
An intraday move above resistance is one thing. A sustained close above the Wave 1 high provides much stronger confirmation that the market has broken out of the corrective structure.
That is the confirmation the current count requires.
Wave 3 Target: 29,850–30,000
Once 26,736 is successfully cleared, the projected Wave 3 target becomes 29,850–30,000.
This target represents approximately a 12% advance from 26,736.
The move would also place the NASDAQ near the psychologically significant 30,000 level, making the target zone particularly important from both a technical and psychological standpoint.
The Elliott Wave structure does not require the index to move straight from 26,736 to 30,000.
There can be numerous smaller-degree waves within Wave 3. Pullbacks are normal. Consolidations are normal. Short-term profit taking is normal.
What matters is whether the larger structure continues to produce higher highs and higher lows after the breakout.
Why 30,000 Matters
A move toward 30,000 would represent a major psychological milestone for the NASDAQ Composite.
The index has already been moving through record territory in 2026. Historical closing data shows the NASDAQ crossed 24,000 in April and 25,000 in May, demonstrating how quickly the index has advanced through major numerical milestones this year. (Wikipedia)
That makes the 29,850–30,000 area a logical place to watch for a potential Wave 3 termination.
Importantly, the target is expressed as a zone, rather than pretending that the exact top will necessarily occur at 30,000.
Elliott Wave targets are most useful when treated as areas where the market may complete a wave rather than as guaranteed exact turning points.
The Short-Term Setup
From a short-term perspective, the situation is considerably simpler.
The NASDAQ had a clearly defined resistance level:
26,736.
The index has now cleared it.
That means the market has completed the condition required to activate the next upside target.
The roadmap is therefore:
24,489 → 26,736 = Wave 1
26,736 → 26,212 = Wave 2 flat
Close above 26,736 = Wave 3 confirmation
29,850–30,000 = Wave 3 target
This is a much cleaner setup than trying to predict every daily fluctuation.
The market has already done the difficult part by breaking above the prior Wave 1 high.
What Would Invalidate the Setup?
The most important distinction is between confirmation and guarantee.
A close above 26,736 confirms the breakout condition, but it does not guarantee that the NASDAQ will reach 30,000 without another correction.
The market can break out, pull back, retest the breakout level and then continue higher.
In fact, a successful retest of 26,736 could potentially strengthen the technical picture by demonstrating that former resistance has become support.
The key issue is whether the larger Wave 2 low at 26,212 remains intact.
As long as that low remains protected, the current bullish wave structure has a clear foundation.
A decisive break beneath 26,212 would require the wave count to be reconsidered.
That gives traders two particularly important levels:
26,736 = breakout/confirmation
26,212 = Wave 2 structural low
Between those levels, the NASDAQ is effectively transitioning from correction to potential impulse.
The Bigger Picture
The most compelling feature of this setup is its simplicity.
There isn't a need to invent a complicated pattern after the fact.
The structure is already defined:
Wave 1 established the initial advance.
Wave 2 formed a relatively shallow flat correction.
The NASDAQ then reclaimed the Wave 1 high.
That sequence is exactly what the bullish Elliott Wave interpretation calls for before a larger Wave 3 develops.
The next objective is therefore not another arbitrary resistance level.
It is 29,850–30,000.
The market still has to prove the count through price action, but the initial breakout condition has now been met.
Bottom Line
The NASDAQ's technical structure is now at an important inflection point.
Wave 1: 24,489 → 26,736
Wave 2: 26,736 → 26,212, identified as a flat
Wave 3: 29,850–30,000
The critical trigger was a close above 26,736.
With the NASDAQ now trading above that level, the breakout the analysis was waiting for has occurred.
The immediate focus therefore shifts from whether the NASDAQ can break 26,736 to whether it can sustain the breakout and develop the projected Wave 3 toward 29,850–30,000.
A successful retest of 26,736 followed by continued strength would be particularly constructive. Meanwhile, 26,212 remains the key structural low from the Wave 2 correction.
For now, the technical roadmap is straightforward:
NASDAQ cleared 26,736. Wave 3 is targeting 29,850–30,000.
The market has activated the next leg of the count; now it has to deliver the follow-through.
